Abstract
 
Zwabit-e Sultani, is a manual or protocol belongs to the governance system of Tipu Sultan, in late 18th c. Manuscripts of the text is mentioned in the Catalogue of Charles Stewart (1809) after a detail account of how the books from the said library were procured and divided in different sections. Zawabit-e Sultani, on seals, branding of horses etc. in Persian on technical know how as well as administrative management of the said King. There are three copies – two in British library (IO 2379) and one in RAS, London (Per 171)- of this work. The detail of the mss is as below. Zawabit-e Sultani’s BL Ms. is adorned with leather crimson color outer color usally called as Jild or binding. Names of Allah, Muhammad (Prophet), Fatima (Prophet’s daughter) and Hassan and Husain (her sons) in a medallion on the middle of cover and the names of four caliphs-Abu Bakr, Omar, Usman and Ali – on the four corners. After the seals, a section on flags and standards of every section and region starts. War animals assigned to every official also had their own seals. There were stationed offices of Qazi of the forces too. The seal of forces of Qazi goes as: Qazi-e-Urdu-e-Mo’alla Khadim-e-Shira’-e-Sharif-e-Rasulullah Sayyed Ali or Kachhari-e-Gawan-e-Jinsi etc. There were standardized regulations related to the branding of horses and other animals too.
