Khāje Majd-al-Din Hamgar (607-686 AH) is a poet in Atābakān-e Fārs epoch, particularly under Atābak Abubakr Sa’d-e Zangi. Although it is believed that the advent of Saadi has overshadowed Majd and his contemporaries, his poetic talent and merits in some fields cannot be ignored, specifically because the overall examination of his poems can serve as a key to unveiling concealed socio-political aspects of his epoch. Most sources agree that he is a habsiyye-composer. Although the Malek-al-sho’arā (poet laureate) of the court, the ups and downs of life finally put him in jail. His poems testify to this incident. In this article Majd’s poems have been examined in order to determine the place of habsiyye, shakvā’iye, and also some details of his biography. The present study aims at discussing the cause, time, and length of his accusation and imprisonment, as well as describing the appearance of the prison, the poet’s sentiments, and personal, political, philosophical, and social complaints in Majd’s poems.
